Summer Wander ... Right where we belong.

I am lost in the vastness of summer, an open road, family that gathers and gathers again. I am lost in this open chapter of my life... in wandering in a truck camper after waiting for it's repair. I am lost in small towns in Washington, Oregon and Idaho... Not knowing so much where we are going but knowing more places we will leave behind.

After a so slow start to our summer journey in our leaky, now fixed, camper we have made good use of it...wandering the northwest...visiting many loved ones...walking miles around a few "could we live here?" small towns as journeying out in the amazing beauty of this NW world.

Rodeo Princess

I am the (bonus) daughter of a Rodeo Princess

Princess Judy Thompson Schneider

I just received this very shocking email from my Mom Judy ...

Hi Marie:

A friend of Janet's called to tell her that my picture is in the August Travel + Leisure Magazine*. It is described as a "vintage photograph." Insults abound as one ages. Last week end, the gal who wheeled out my groceries asked me if I wanted to hang onto the handle on the cart.

Love, Judy

I immediately offered her my assistance...

Dearest Mom Judy,

I am shocked that the August Travel + Leisure Magazine would malign you that way. Shall I file suit in your honor? I would be happy to attest that their is not one vintage bone in your body.

Unless you stop me I am off to post your picture and comment below on my blog. Thank you for the gift of a smile.

Remember smiles are contagious
Don't forget to pass them on!

Following a path of my heart
Is not as easy as I thought
Hurrying seems to get in my way
What stones will I step on today?

A special smile and hug to cousin Gray who
survived a wonderful weekend of laughter and fun

Flashback - June 14th

Two weeks ago we left Tucson
Goodbye 100+ degree weather
Goodbye Jessa & James
Good bye our favorite funky RV Park with a heart

Look who showed up just in time to say good bye.
I even saw the very much grown up baby owl too,
it had been a few weeks I think since my last spotting.
Our family of Great Horned Owls... What a blessing to
live below you this year and breath in your natural life.

Hello new second home.
We just bought a Travel Lite Truck Camper
..and a few headaches.
The good news is that we LOVE the space.
It feels like we live in a tree house and
know once it's fixed up we will be happy campers again.

Cozy and comfy...

We are not sorry to say goodbye our 4am 4hour daily wake up
wacko Northern Cardinal.
Will he fly the coop while we are gone?

And the beloved welcoming committee...
Mom Audrey, Tick, me and Ryn

Safe journeys and loads of smiles to all.

Phil and I finally made it up to Washington staying with family in our truck camper. We haven't found our groove yet. We hope over the next month to work exchange at our favoriate Inn ... the Tokeland Inn... over in Tokeland on the Washington coast. They have a wonderful restaurant and cozy old inn.

Nothing seems to go smoothly right now. Every day we are challenged by hard choices and spending money. I keep hoping we will get our groove on. The new (used) truck camper has a leak and has to be worked on later this week too. So much for being happy wandering fools. Maybe next week.

Thanks for the ear. Check out zazzle and see what you think of my new layout. I have a new 'best seller" ... PADDLES WELL WITH OTHERS (kayaking) along with ALL WHO WANDER ARE NOT LOST.

Hugs to all, Marie

Walking Around My Brain

Where does the time go?

I am baking hot here but happy as a clam too. I am so amazed that I am more than surviving Tucson at 100 degrees everyday. The joy of free time lifts my heart. I have never lived in dry weather before and that makes a big difference too. My dear spouse thrives in this weather which is icing on the cake.

We have been shopping for a cabover camper to no avail. Looks like it will be car camping for the summer with the possibility of some work exchange for a roof too. :) Works for me!

For the most part I am a happy camper. We live nip and tuck while stretching our pennies. We still have a stream of life's quirky problems and 'best guess' decisions to make especially about money. I often hear my dad say "it's a good problem to have" when I am worrying and/or whining over something. At the time he said that I think he was talking about having to pay income tax. Between my lay off in 2007 and the economic train wreck effecting our planned income I now know exactly what he means!

I have been a worrier since the beginning of time ...The gift of not being run by a clock is significant and life changing. It's been just over two years since I had a "real job" and I am finally beginning to feel the numbness of life replaced with a joyful heart.

I am so grateful to live this quieter life not driven by the noise of a more traditional life. I brain/soul is learning new 'muscle memory' as a learn to breath more and let my worries go out into the universe instead of feeding them that monkey on my back.

Sadly CafePress, where I have been developing my primary 'whimsical gift store' as of June 1st is cutting commissions in their marketplace to 10% for storekeepers. We can still charge you customers/friends/community more if you go directly to our storefront. Hmm what's wrong with that picture? Many, including myself, are busy working away on a storefront on There's lots of difference but the one thing that is the same is it all takes time!

You can check out my Zazzle store here. I have been slowly building sales, Eventually I will change my to Zazzle but for now it's still directed at my Cafepress Store.

Thanks for sharing this wander around my brain. I hope your found a good hug a some joy in today. Best wishes as always to you and yours.

Oh Joy Oh Bird

Bird crazy? Who me?

My love to our baby owl!
We took a road trip to Flagstaff... Looks like s/he missed us?
It stays near but on the far side of our circle.
Every day is a bit of a owl hunt as we find his/her new spot.

In the palm trees we still see it snuggle with mom or dad...sharing a palm frond.
I have had so much joy in watching this young one bloom and fly.
So much like me ... learning to stretch in wings
and still crash landing at times too.

My heart if full of gratitude of knowing this little one.
(see the little error on the bottom left?)

The table turns...

The baby owl is practically grown up and
now we have a new bird in our lives.
Instead of me searching for him
This one is searching... I mean harassing us.
Everyday this kooky cardinal shows up at dawn
banging away than doing a back flip.

Looks innocent doesn't he?

It could be 5am...anyone home?

Align Center

Set.... Huh?

Window peeking, back flipping
Crazy bird making us crazy...

Just about all the people have left our RV nest.
Now it's the wildlife coming to play.
See that sunshine? Day 4 of 100 degree weather. Wow.

This yak is sponsored my yours truly...

Baby Owl - Where did you go?

Hi Bloggers!

We been busy around here keeping up with the Great Horned Owl baby. S/he has totally charmed us all. Cute, busy and inquisitive too.

The baby owl was out of it's nest again Friday, but not for long. What a difference a week makes! After eating a good breakfast with dad on the palm frond it .... he went back in the nest.

Saturday when we woke mom and baby were gone. We found dad near by but looked all day for baby to no avail. A neighbor finally found him in the nearby fir tree. My heart soared!

Well loved Owl!

Does anyone know when a chick becomes a fledgling?

Now if I could get Mom, Dad and Baby all on one branch for just one last portrait.

Rumor has it that the baby owls stay for awhile.
These awesome parents have lived in our RV park for at least 5 years!

Phil and I are heading north to explore the Flagstaff area for a few days.
Time for me to go fly out of our nest!

Gifts, smiles and apparel... my whimsy!

Baby Owl In the Wind - First Day Video

I am enthralled with our baby owl ... and acting just like a mother hen.
Below is my video of the little one the first day I found her blowing in the wind.

Hang on baby hang on!

Truth be told that we felt very much like how that little one looks when we left our traditional life to risk creating this new one. Selling everything and living frugally over these past two years has been an adventure. Time has been our friend as we have learned to live, be and grow into this time. Trading freedom for consumerism ... learning to want less and be more.

The wind still blows...sometimes suddenly, at times constantly...
and yet like that little one we hang on ... growing stronger in time...
We can even be found now laughing into the wind
when we are not hanging on for dear life.

Bull Snake Stalker - Who knew?

click on the arrow to run and turn up your volume for sound :)

It didn't occur to me two years ago that by selling everything and living in an RV I would open my life up to so many experiences. I had no idea that I would be living such an earthy life.

Phil and I have settled in to living on the frugal ... trading income and stuff for 'free hobbies' and experiences. I got turned on to the power of free hobbies a few months ago from a favorite blog, Early Retirement Extreme. I already knew at the time that in order to live a richer life we needed to develop in areas that didn't cost anything but Jacob crystallized the idea for me.

Learning knew language empowers my journey and I am stronger for it. Embracing free hobbies strengthens the personal power of my own dollar. What free hobbies/passions do you have?

Who knew I would become a snake stalker?

Baby Owl Out of Nest Day 2 & 3 Family Day

Welcome - Please stay in touch!
Subscribe by email or in a feed

The great horned owl chick is still out on a limb.
We think it is about 6-8 weeks old.

I am a steadfast soul wandering below.

Folks come by all day to take pictures and gaze at this baby owl.

It's a long way up and a long way down.

Bird folks tell me this isn't that unusual and not to worry.
I feel better when Dad and Mom are around but I haven't
seen them sense late morning.
The little one just follows me with his/her eyes
and I want so much to help.

Dad with the little great horned owl.

Mom watching out next door.

Two birds of a feather!

The best Dad! (when he is here)

Baby back again on his/her own.
Waiting for mom and dad
as I wait for him/her to fly.
